Woman, 36, killed in multi-vehicle crash on Route 28 near East Deer

EAST DEER TOWNSHIP, PA – Four vehicles were involved in a major collision Tuesday morning near East Deer Township that claimed the life of a 36-year-old woman and left another person with serious injuries, reports TRIBLive.

The fatal wreck occurred on the southbound side of Route 28, between the exits to Tarentum and Pittsburgh Mills, at around 7:10 a.m.

State police said the woman, a Pittsburgh resident, was operating a purple Dodge Challenger southbound. While trying to pass a pickup truck that was in the left lane, the Dodge hit its front-right bumper, causing the purple car to lose control and travel off the left side of the roadway and over the median. The car went airborne upon striking the guardrail, and went on to hit the hood and windshield of a white Dodge Dart heading northbound. After spinning about 180 degrees and traveling into the right lane in the process, it collided with a northbound black Hyundai Kona.

The driver of the Dodge succumbed to her injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.

First responders had the driver of the black car, a 48-year-old Duquesne man, transported to a local hospital.

The other two drivers were not reported injured.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of the highway were blocked following the crash.
