PITTSBURGH, PA – Mechanical failure may have been a factor in a crash Tuesday evening in northeast Pittsburgh that sent a pedestrian and two others to a hospital, according to WPXI.

The incident took place on Liberty Avenue at Baum Boulevard, in the city’s Bloomfield neighborhood. First responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after 5:35 p.m.

Pittsburgh Police said a man was behind the wheel of an SUV when it hit a pedestrian and then went on to slam into a nearby tree and a utility pole.

While no specific information about those involved has been released, officials noted that the driver had to be extricated from the SUV following the crash.

The pedestrian, as well as the driver and a female passenger, were taken to an area hospital. All patients were last listed in stable condition.

According to the driver, the vehicle’s gas pedal got stuck just prior to the crash, but an investigation remains ongoing.
