BUTLER COUNTY, PA – A young buy was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Wednesday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle in Butler County, according to the Butler Eagle.
The incident took place near the intersection of West New Castle Street and Sixth Avenue in Butler, where the child was hit at about 3:30 p.m. CBS Pittsburgh reported that police believe the driver could not stop in time after the boy darted out in front of the car.
A medical helicopter flew the victim to UPMC Children’s Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Police shut down West New Castle Street in both directions from Sixth Avenue to Seventh Avenue while the collision was being investigated. Pennsylvania State Police and Butler police were assisted at the scene by the Butler Bureau of Fire, Butler Ambulance Service, and PennDOT maintenance crews.
