PITTSBURGH, PA – A man was killed in an accident involving a moped on the Bloomfield Bridge Thursday morning, according to a City of Pittsburgh news release.
Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to the area after reports of the incident at about 6:30 a.m. A preliminary investigation determined that a 60-year-old man lost control of his moped while traveling outbound towards Bigelow Boulevard. He collided with the center jersey barrier and was thrown over the divider into the inbound lanes.
The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Collision Investigation Unit detectives were called to the scene to investigate.
Officials said the city’s Vision Zero Fatal Crash Response Team will visit the site in the coming weeks to evaluate potential crash factors.
