PITTSBURGH, PA – A fleeing vehicle struck a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus Tuesday afternoon in northeast Pittsburgh, causing the bus to crash into a residence and injure two people, according to CBS News Pittsburgh.
The collision took place on Hamilton Avenue near Durango Way, in the city’s Homewood neighborhood, at around 4:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a driver was fleeing from Monroeville Police Department officers when the pursuit entered the area. The fleeing vehicle ultimately struck the bus, sending it off the roadway and into the porch of a nearby house.
The driver and a passenger of PRT bus were transported to a local hospital for unspecified injuries. Officials said about eight passengers were traveling on the bus at the time of the incident, but no one else aboard was reported injured.
Despite being inside the home at the time of the wreck, the owner was not hurt. And although the property’s porch was determined to be a total loss, the house retained its structural integrity.
A Monroeville officer who was involved in the pursuit sustained a leg injury from the crash, but no further information was provided, and the search for the suspect, who fled the scene, remains under.
First responders worked until about 7:00 p.m. to remove the bus from the home’s porch area.
