ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA – A multi-vehicle wreck involving a tractor-trailer Friday morning in Monroeville has claimed the life of a 69-year-old Trafford woman, reports WTAE.
The fatal accident occurred in the 2100 block of Mosside Boulevard, prompting an emergency response.
A preliminary investigation found that the woman was behind the wheel of a northbound Hyundai Elantra and had slowed down to turn left into the parking lot of a business. At one point, the Elantra was struck by a tractor-trailer, which was also traveling northbound. The Elantra went on to strike a southbound Dodge Caravan.
The driver of the Hyundai, who was left trapped in the vehicle, had to be extricated before she was rushed to a local hospital. She was later pronounced deceased. Her passenger, identified as her son, was also taken to a hospital. His condition was said to be stable.
While the driver of the Caravan was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition, their passenger, who was also listed as stable, declined further care.
No other injuries were reported.
The case is being handled by Allegheny County homicide and collision reconstruction detectives.
