1 Dead, 5 Left Hurt Following Crash on Old Rt. 71 in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, PA – Authorities were dispatched to a multi-injury, head-on crash Tuesday evening, October 29, in Fallowfield Township that left one person dead, reports CBS News Pittsburgh.

Washington County dispatchers were alerted to the scene on westbound Old Route 71 near the Mon-Fayette Expressway just after 8:45 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found that one driver was traveling westbound on Old Rt. 71 when they entered the opposing lane, causing their vehicle to strike another head-on.

Officials did not say how many people were in each vehicle, but the Washington County Coroner’s Office indicated that a passenger from the eastbound vehicle succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Four patients had to be airlifted to local hospitals while one other patient was taken by ground ambulance. The severity of their conditions remains unknown to the public.

An investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police remains in progress.
