MCCANDLESS, PA – Authorities were called to the scene of a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Tuesday in Allegheny County, reports KDKA.

The accident happened at the intersection of Harmony Drive and Highland Road in McCandless at about 5:45 p.m. A woman was walking her dog in that area when they were struck by an SUV making a turn.

The woman, a 55-year-old McCandless resident, died after being transported to an area hospital. Her dog, a 5-year-old Sheltie named Piper, was also killed.

The driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, who are continuing to investigate the incident.
