Man, 23, Killed in Dormont Motorcycle vs. Car Hit-and-Run Crash

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA – A 25-year-old man was arrested following a hit-and-run collision late Saturday, September 21, in Dormont that claimed the life of a 23-year-old motorcyclist, reports TRIBLive.

The fatal incident took place in the area of Pioneer Avenue and West Liberty Avenue, at about 10:45 p.m.

Allegheny County officials found that the motorcyclist was in the northbound lane of West Liberty and was waiting at a red light when he was hit by a northbound Taurus. The crash forced the motorcycle into the southbound traffic lane and the rider was thrown onto the roadway.

The rider, a Dormont resident who was critically injured and suffered blunt force head trauma, was rushed to Pittsburgh’s UPMC Mercy hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Taurus, a 25-year-old man from Etna, alleged that another vehicle had hit his car and prompted him to leave the scene of the crash with his family, including two children.

While an investigation remains ongoing, authorities have determined that the Etna man failed to help the motorcyclist after spotting him in the roadway. The defendant is also believed to have neglected to use their brakes prior to the impact.

At an arraignment this past Sunday, after bail was denied, the defendant was transported to the Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 4.
