1 left injured, 1 arrested after crash involving fleeing car near SW Pittsburgh

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA – One person sustained injuries Wednesday night, August 14, when a police pursuit led to a collision near southwest Pittsburgh, reports Post-Gazette.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of Banksville Road and McMonagle Avenue, in the city’s Banksville area. It was first reported shortly after 8:30 p.m., when an Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw a Jeep Cherokee driving erratically and at high speeds on Bausman Street.

According to officials, the driver of the Jeep, a 22-year-old McKeesport man, sped away during an attempted traffic stop, prompting a pursuit. The suspect eventually crashed the Jeep into another car at the above intersection.

The driver of the victim vehicle suffered a broken pelvis, but no other information about his condition has been shared other than that his injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Following the crash, the 22-year-old suspect forcibly removed a man out of an uninvolved sedan at the Banksville Plaza parking lot, in an attempt to take the car. Two witnesses were able to restrain him before he got away, and he was later arrested.

The suspect, who was found donning body armor and in possession of a loaded handgun, as well as a loaded assault-style weapon, was booked into Allegheny County Jail.
