PITTSBURGH, PA – A 76-year-old woman from Butler has been identified as the driver who died late last Thursday afternoon in northeast Pittsburgh, according to TRIBLive.
The accident occurred on a stretch of William Flynn Highway at Applewood Drive, in the North Hills area, at about 5:15 p.m. on August 8.
A preliminary investigation indicates that one vehicle was heading southbound on the highway, or Route 8, when it stopped in anticipation of a left turn onto Applewood Drive. The vehicle was then struck from behind by another car, and the impact sent the first vehicle into oncoming traffic, causing it to collide head-on with the Butler woman’s car.
The medical examiner’s office confirmed that the Butler woman was pronounced deceased at 6:42 p.m.
First responders had two other people rushed to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
As of this writing, the circumstances behind the wreck remains unclear, and no further information regarding the victims’ conditions has been shared.
