SOMERSET COUNTY, PA – Authorities responded to a crash involving a dirt bike and a John Deere front-end loader Monday in Milford Township that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy, reports Daily American.
The fatal incident was reported on the 200 block of Augustine Road and prompted a response from New Centerville Fire Department crews and Somerset EMS personnel at about 12:46 p.m.
An accident reported released by the Pennsylvania State Police indicates the boy, a Somerset resident, was operating a Yamaha YZ85 motorcycle eastbound and was traveling at a high rate of speed. At one point, he encountered an oncoming John Deere 444K front loader. Despite efforts from both operators in avoiding a crash, the bike collided with the front loader’s front-left tire and came to rest on its left side on the roadway’s left shoulder.
First responders pronounced the juvenile operator deceased at the scene.
No injuries to the operator of the front loader were reported.
At this time, no further information has been made available, and officials have not indicated any pending charges or citations.
