PITTSBURGH, PA – Authorities are investigating a motorcycle collision last Friday night, July 19, in southwest Pittsburgh that claimed the life of a young man, reports TribLIVE.
The fatal crash happened on the southbound lanes of State Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) between Woodruff Street and Crane Avenue. Pittsburgh Police were called to the area shortly after 8:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the victim, believed to be around 20 years old, was operating a motorcycle when he lost control for unknown reasons.
First responders arrived to find him unresponsive at the scene, and he was pronounced deceased shortly after. Officials noted he was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck, and that speed appeared to play a role.
The department’s Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate.
