CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PA – Three people lost their lives Sunday evening due to a multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 81 near Mechanicsburg, reports Penn Live.
The fatal collision took place on the southbound highway at Exit 57 to Route 114. It was first reported at around 2:00 p.m.
While very few details have been made public, one of the involved vehicles caught fire.
Three people were pronounced deceased following the crash, confirmed Pennsylvania State Police.
Crews were re-directing traffic at the exit, and a section of I-81 was closed between Route 114 (Exit 57) and Route 11 (Exit 52), but by 11:35 pm., the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the southbound interstate had reopened.
Authorities have not released any information regarding potential charges or citations at this time.
