Man Facing Charges In Connection With Parkway East Wrong-Way Collision That Left 2 Dead

PITTSBURGH, PA – A driver is facing charges following a fatal accident that occurred near Downtown Pittsburgh on Sunday evening, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Police said the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was going east in the westbound lanes of Parkway East near mile marker 71 at about 7:30 p.m. The Silverado collided with a westbound Nissan Frontier, killing the 52-year-old woman driving the Nissan and her 77-year-old female passenger.

The driver of the Silverado, a 41-year-old man, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. The Silverado driver and his passenger were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

Traffic was disrupted on I-376 west for several hours during the accident response and investigation.

Pennsylvania State Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
