Elderly Pedestrian Crossing Route 19 Struck And Killed By Vehicle

PETERS TOWNSHIP, PA – Police in Peters Township are investigating a crash that killed an elderly pedestrian on Wednesday night, according to The Observer-Reporter.

The accident took place near a restaurant and farm market along Route 19 (Washington Road) just after 7:30 p.m.

Investigators learned that a vehicle heading north struck a 79-year-old woman who was walking across the road with her 43-year-old daughter. The mother was pronounced dead after being transported to St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon. Her daughter was not struck by the vehicle.

The driver involved, a 73-year-old man, pulled into a gas station and waited for police officers. He was not impaired, police said, and was released from the scene. Another driver had stopped to try and help the women after the collision.

Peters Township police, firefighters, and paramedics all responded to the scene. Police said they have not yet determined fault, and believe it to have been “a tragic accident”.
