Vehicle Crashes Into Pole Along Route 40, Leaving 1 Dead, 1 Injured

MENALLEN TOWNSHIP, PA – Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a fatal wreck that occurred early Tuesday morning in Fayette County, CBS Pittsburgh reports.

The single-vehicle accident happened along Route 40 in Menallen Township, where a car crashed into a pole outside a gas station at about 1:30 a.m. A passenger in the car, a 23-year-old woman from Washington, Pennsylvania, died at the scene. The driver, a man, was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

A State Police investigator told WPXI that high speed is suspected to have been a contributing factor in the crash, which shut down Route 40 for hours while the scene was being cleared.
