Pregnant Woman Dies Following Crash on Newville Rd in Cumberland County

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PA – A 20-year-old woman died Sunday afternoon, September 8, in Cumberland County as a result of a collision involving a sleepy driver, according to CBS News Pittsburgh.

Local authorities said the wreck occurred on Newville Road at around 12:30 p.m., after a 19-year-old driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

Preliminary information indicates the driver then lost control of the vehicle as it veered off the roadway, hit a utility pole, and spun around

The young woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected from a side window and came to rest on the roadway. First responders confirmed that the victim, who was reportedly 17 weeks pregnant, died as a result of her injuries.

The driver was transported to an area hospital, but no information about their condition has been disclosed.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the fatal crash. No pending charges have been reported as of this writing.
